Members of SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania will join local residents, faith leaders and civil rights leaders to welcome those touring the country to call for commonsense immigration reform.
ALLENTOWN, PA — On Tuesday, April 1, healthcare professionals from SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania will join local residents, area faith leaders and civil rights leaders in welcoming the Fast for Families Across America bus tour to Allentown.
The tour features members of the original fast on the mall in Washignton D.C. that lasted 22 days. There, four core fasters — SEIU’s Eliseo Medina, DREAMer and Mi Familia Vota’s Cristian Avila, NAKASEC’s Dae Joong Yoon, and FIRM’s Rudy Lopez — were joined by solidary fasters in DC and thousands across the country who gave up food for one day and some as long as a 13 days in more than 200 events across the country to raise awareness and to call on members of Congress to enact commonsense immigration reform with a path to citizenship.
On Tuesday, members of the national tour will gather with local hosts at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Monument at 4th and Union streets in Allentown at 10 a.m. for a press conference before continuing on with a full day of activities.
At 1:30 p.m., the tour and dozens of supporters will descend on Congressman Charlie Dent’s office at 3900 Hamilton Boulevard, Suite 207 for a rally. A delegation of representatives will deliver a letter (large blow up) signed by supporters calling on the Congressman to support commonsense immigration reform and press his fellow representatives to move on this issue now.
